Meriden - William O. Alusitz, 87, husband of Nancy (Metrelis) Alusitz, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 26, 2006. He was born in Meriden on April 16, 1918, a son of the late John and Julia (Valentine) Alusitz. He proudly served his country during World War II as a Staff Sargent with the U. S. Army Air Force for four years in Alaska, Canada and the Artic Region. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the U. S. Postal Service in Meriden. Bill, an avid hiker and skier, in his 70's he won a 10 kilometer citizen's race for his age group at Pine Mountain in East Hartland. Besides his wife Nancy, he is survived by a daughter Jean and her husband Jeffrey McNamara of East Lyme, CT, a son Peter Alusitz and his wife Michelle Mariash of NY five grandchildren William and Sylvie Alusits and Lauren, Leigh and Wade McNamara. He also leaves four sisters, Mary and her husband Vaughn Wyman of CT and FL, Katherine Hunt, Ruth Alusitz and Elsie Scully all of CT., a brother-in-law, Peter Iodice of CT and two sisters-in-law, Carol Quinn of MA and Linda Alusitz of CT. Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangments are under the direction of Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Alusitz's memory may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 164 Hanover St., Meriden, CT 06451 or to the charity of one's choice.
