William Arthur Collett, of Meriden and Leetes Island, CT, 94, husband of 68 years to Charlotte (Richmond) Collett passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014. He was born April 16,1920 in Meriden, son of the late Arthur G. and Jessie (Hobson) Collett. Bill served proudly as a United States Army Sergeant in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. He had a lengthy career at the Miller Company in Meriden beginning as a metallurgist and retiring in 1977 as rolling mill superintendant. He worked tirelessly in many capacities as a long time member of All Saints Episcopal Church. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of the YMCA, was a member of the Meriden Chamber of Commerce and drove for the Red Cross. Bill was an active member of the Y's Men's Club and looked forward to weekly cribbage games and speakers. He worked preparing taxes for the AARP tax aide program for seniors for many years. He especially enjoyed his 26 years of volunteer work at MidState Medical Center. In addition to his wife Charlotte, he is survived by three daughters; Susan (Thomas) March of Bethlehem, Marilyn Collett of Branford, Sandra (Regis) Conlon of Branford, and a son William A. (Sharon) Collett Jr. of Bethlehem, and ten grandchildren; Heather Hurley, Thomas March Jr., Emily Medonis, Benjamin March, Erin, Benjamin and Jennifer Conlon and Shane, Jason and Tonya Collett. He also leaves eleven great-grandchildren and two nieces. Bill was predeceased by a sister, Marion Upham. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 12:00noon at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 20 Caitlin St., Meriden. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden on Saturday from 10 to 11:30am, prior to the service.
