MERIDEN - William Roland Irvin, 80, of Meriden, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband for 58 years of Myrtle Dobratz Irvin. Born in East Orange, NJ, April 16, 1924, he was the son of the late Ray J. and Mellie Edna Best Irvin, and had lived in Meriden for 58 years. He was a graduate of Cranford High School in Cranford, NJ, class of 1942, and was employed with American Cyanamid Company (now Cytec Industries) for 38 years, retiring in 1986. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy for four years aboard the Minesweeper, USS Symbol 123.Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scott J. and Mark W. Irvin, both of Meriden; a daughter, Dawn G. Irvin and a future son-in-law, James Nord, both of Branford; four step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Richard Stack of Florida. He was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Frances Irvin of Malaga, NJ. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Interment will be in Eternal Reefs. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
